The
NJBA June 2002 event featured a solid turnout of race teams. Two
fuelers came out to play as Ron Braaksma was at the controls of his
Madness machine and Jerry Kutz made his first run in the Nitro fed twin
prop Myers hulled ex Wildside machine. It was a very interesting run
that looked good until Jerry could not get the motor to shut off. After
a couple of minutes sitting idle with the motor still running in the
shut down area the machine finaly went silent. Some of the killer
machines as I remember them include Jeff Martin in the Flat Nasty 146
machine. Jeff, a very talented and accomplished flat bottom competitor,
posted some incredible runs in his Canyon hulled machine and if I am
not mistaken he has been in the six second range in the naturally
aspirated machine. I hope to see Jeff back out on the water sometime
soon. He and Tony Scarlata had some good battles between the 146 and
the 105 entry. Ray Capaldi spent some time trying to dial in a new hull
in the 282 machine and I believe he went back to run the hull that he
had previously campaigned. Emmitt Pagliuso brought his TAF to
Bakersfield to make some runs. Emmitt returned to the liquid quarter
mile after suffering a big time crash at Phoenix sometime earlier.Sean
Giroux in the Bill Barnes owned Physicole Attraction blown on alcohol
flatty making a hard launch. The NJBA season is about the kick off at
Ming in a couple weeks and I hope that the turnout is a good one. The
days of racing at Lake Ming could be numbered based on all of the homes
being built around the lake. This body of water has seen more racing
action than most venues and the laid back atmosphere at the NJBA and
SCSC events at Ming is always an enjoyable experience. It will be a
shame if the races at shut down. Enjoy it while you can!
