2008 SCSC Spring Classic
April 12th & 13th Parker Arizona

What an awesome weekend at Parker! You could not have asked for better weather as both days were perfect! There was a decent sized crowd on Saturday with a bunch of people enjoying a little boat racing during their spring break. The program ran extremely smooth which was really nice if you went to the 2008 opener at Ming where there were six on the water incidents on Sunday alone which drastically slowed the program. In fact the SCSC Rescue team had a very quiet weekend, which is very race when it comes to circle boat racing, as they did not have to pull any of the racers from the Colorado River. The boat count was decent but lacking some of the top teams like the Rankin team, Scarlata, Tustison, and for the second race in 2008 the Plan B team did not make the call. The cracker box class rebounded from their mess at Ming and ten boats made the trip. It was the Western Divisional race for the crackers and there was some awesome racing as usual in this awesome class. The Divisional battle came down to Mike Leach in the P66 Mr. Magoo entry and Amy Ottinger in the P96 Arizona Girls entry. Leach was taking the long way around the course on the outside while Amy was working the buoys and using tight turns to gain the advantage. It looked as if Amy had something for the P66 machine heading out of the first turn on the last lap as the two machines were pretty close coming out of the turn. Leach and rider Bob Overcash felt the pressure and opened her up on the backstreatch and there was no way that Amy was going to get out of the final turn quick enough to overtake the P66 entry. There were also a couple hydro hulled machines running in Nostalgia Hydro and talk about some down right cool pics in the turns! I highly doubt either of these two machines even ran half of what they are capable of but they still put on a good show on what was a very narrow course for them. Some of the most exciting racing came out of the Comp Jet class as there were a number of spin outs in the turns. As a matter of fact the CJ champ, Ralph Brunt, did a spin out in turn two in the what I believe was the Sunday final and he was able to get his machine turned around and headed in the right direction and still take the race win. Brunt's machine was dialed in and running excellent all weekend long. In the Pro Stock and Super Stock classes it was the Wooten clan taking home the wins. Jeff Wooten had his PS346 machine running awesome as he dominated the PS class. He also ran a heat in the K Class where he finished second and pushed first place finisher John Guthrie pretty hard. The PS346 Rocket machine of Wooten is an awesome looking and running machine! Matt Wooten, who has made great strides in the Laveycraft hulled Super Stocker, took his first race win in the class. In the GN class Skip Tuttle and Joey Cucci had some great battles but at the end of the 20 lap endurance race it was Bill Wheeler taking his second win in a row. Wheeler was able to negotiate the 20 lap final with a consistent and fast run while Cucci led at the start but then slowed and moved to the outside of the course and was not a factor. Congratulations to all of the winners at the 2008 SCSC Spring Classic event. The complete results are listed below along with a bunch of pics we shot during the event. Enjoy!
