Like drag boat racing the straight line action in the sand is also
very photogenic. The rooster tail of dirt from a Nitromethane burning
Top Fuel car is AWESOME! The variety of cars and classes at the
National Sand Drag Association events is also AWESOME! I spent only a
couple hours at the Soboba Casino (in San Jacinto California) event on
Sunday during eliminations and I would highly recommend a trip out to
Soboba for anyone interested in high speed action. And even thought I
said straight line these machines can be handful in the short 300 foot
course. Unlike most the dragboat venues and the asphalt drags the sand
drag course is always changing. Each and every run appeared to change
the course somewhat and a lot of the race teams could be seen scoping
out the track and putting their machine in the best spot in the lane.
The track has to be groomed every couple runs and the machinery used to
even out the track is impressive! The three day action also consists of
some night race action as the track has temporary lighting. Along with
the exciting TF, TA, and TE cars there were some pretty impressive
Jeeps. The juniors also were neat to see run especially some of the
dragsters. I shot a bunch of HD video as well of each of the runs that
I have photos for. I hope to attend a couple more NSDA Soboba Casino
events during the year and the action is also good at Primm Nevada. For
more info check out Sand-Drags.com which is the home of the NSDA and
NationalSandDragNews.com as they provide daily results for all of the
NSDA races. Enjoy!
