- about us Spect8foto.com
The Spect8foto.com website has been up and running for about the last
ten years however we have been shooting pics and following the races
(car and boat) since the late 1980's. Everything started in the
1970's with lots of trips to the Colorado River at River Lodge and Moon
Ridge Marina. We had a family jet boat and spent many weekends boating
and as a kid I vividly remember seeing the flat bottom ski boats tied
up at River Lodge with names like Don and Jim Ermshar and the Ivory
Hunter. My father and I went to a bunch of races at Long Beach Marine
Stadium where he shot pictures (slide film). We also spent many
weekends spectating at Blue Water watching the family drag boat
races. In the late eighties my father and I ventured to our first IHBA
drag boat race and there we saw Ron Braaksma run over 200 mph in his
capsuled Madness Top Fuel Hydro and we were hooked. We have been
following the IHBA circuit ever since and have had our work published
in many magazines over the years including Hot Boat, Drag Racer,
Extreme Boats, and Performance Racing News. We are currently in
our 10th year of working with the Drag Boat Review publication that
covers all of the drag boat racing in the US. We have met a ton of awesome people along the way! In 2001 things
really took off in terms of the photo world as we went digital. Some
five or six different models later we could not be doing what we do if
we were still using film. Imagine going to a circle boat race and
coming home with over 3000 pictures. I do not even want to think about
how much it would cost to process prints and where I would store them!
Currently we are utilizing Canon digital equipment for the still shots
and a Panasonic HD video camcorder and Sony HD camcorder. It wasn't
until February 2008 that the web site got much attention and the
current focus is to put us on the map when it comes to photos, video,
and information related to drag boat racing, drag racing, and circle
boat racing. Some of our current favorites are the nostalgia funny car
class and the cracker box class. Along with the racing photography and
coverage we also spend lots of time shooting pics at my kids games. If
you think a pair of nitro guzzling top fuel boats is intense you should
see some of the parents out at the little league fields. WOW. Thanks
for visiting!
